Müller & Töchter

A cosy new coffee spot in Linzergasse you’ll want to move into

A very good friend told me I had to go check out the new coffee place on Linzergasse. “You’ll love it,” he said. “The owner’s super nice and it feels like having coffee at home.” A few days later I found myself at Müller & Töchter Kaffee und Laden, toddler in tow and zero expectations, except maybe a good espresso.

What I found? A genuinely cosy little concept café that feels more like stepping into someone’s living room than a trendy hotspot. Andy, the owner, greeted us with warmth and calm, even when our toddler began enthusiastically trying to rearrange the shop. Within seconds, a toy chest appeared and the vibe was clear: this isn’t just a café, it’s a place where you’re meant to stay a while.

Müller & Töchter is more than a coffee shop. It’s a carefully curated mix of café, concept store, and local hangout. Yes, you’ll get your classics, really good coffee, homemade cakes, a daily vegetarian lunch menu option, but you’ll also find a rotating selection of unique items: cards, mobiles, framed art, photos, T-shirts, and quirky gift ideas. Every piece has a story, and every story connects back to Andy, who’s spent years collecting inspiration from makers, and designers all over the world.

Among them are his own T-shirt label, “Prost Shirts,” born during the early lockdowns. What started as a passion project with a friend, designing merch for natural wine producers, turned into a side hustle. Inspired by the beauty of wine labels and the people behind them, they now create designs for over a dozen gastronomy projects: wine bars, restaurants, and a few of their own playful ideas. You’ll find some of them hanging in the shop, no hard sell needed, just cool shirts, good stories, and a very relaxed “if you like it, take it” kind of vibe.

Oh, and yes, you can also buy natural wine from WeinSkandal at producer prices, something usually reserved for those visiting the wineries in person. Soon, Andy plans to host wine tastings in the shop, and he’s open to all kinds of event ideas, just ask.

The name? Andy laughed when I asked. He always wanted to open a café-meets-shop, and when a friend suggested something classic like “Müller & Töchter,” it just stuck. A nod to old-school store names and a quiet tribute to his two daughters.

It’s the kind of place you imagine doesn’t exist anymore, small-scale, full of personality, and proudly local. Even the rough plaster wall behind the bar? An accidental gem that Andy and his brother uncovered during renovation and decided to leave as-is after enough friends said “hey, that actually looks really cool.”

Whether you’re popping in for a quick coffee, picking up a last-minute gift, or looking for a spot to work, read or chat, this is one of the most welcoming coffee places in Salzburg. And yes, Andy really is as nice as everyone says.
