Quick climb, big views: Ellmaustein Hike
A perfect half-day (or after-work) adventure above Fuschlsee
Sometimes the best hikes are the ones that don’t take all day but still deliver the views. The Ellmaustein hike is exactly that: short, easy, and with one of the most breathtaking panoramas over the Wolfgangsee once you reach the top.
We hopped on the 150 bus (handy tip: with the KlimaTicket Plus, two people can ride together on weekends) and set off with high excitement, as this is one of our favourite hikes. The trail starts off with a bit of a steep section, but don’t worry, it’s over almost as soon as it begins. From there, the path evens out and it’s an easy, pleasant walk all the way to the summit.
In less than an hour we were standing at the top, and the view really does live up to the hype. The whole Fuschlsee spread out below us, framed by mountains, with the kind of quiet that makes you want to stay longer than planned. We did exactly that, unpacked snacks, took in the panorama, and turned it into a little picnic stop.
The way down was even quicker, around 40 minutes, and before we knew it we were back at the bus stop.
Final verdict: 10/10 for effort-to-view ratio
This is one of those hikes you can easily fit into a half-day, or even better, as an after-work hike when you just need to clear your head and watch the sun dip over the lake.
